INTERNATIONAL TRANSLATION DAY 2018

The theme for 2018: Translation: Promoting Cultural Heritage in Changing Times.

Every year, this day is marked on 30 September, on the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron of translators.

This day pay tribute to the work of language professionals whose work facilitates an understanding and cooperation between different cultures. International Federation of Translators: “International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30 September on the feast of St. Jerome.

FIT decides on a theme for each year and invites all of its member associations to join it in celebrating the day around the theme.

A poster is published each year which our members are welcome to print out in A4 or A3 format and use to promote the event.

The poster is chosen based on a competition to which professional designers are invited to submit entries. The year 2017 marked an historical milestone for all professional translators, interpreters and terminologists, with the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopting Resolution A/RES/71/288, recognising the role of professional translation in connecting nations, and fostering peace, understanding and development.

In the same resolution, the United Nations General Assembly declared 30 September to be UN International Translation Day, celebrated across the entire UN network.”
