A win for TIA Queensland
As a result of our member run campaign to hold language service providers to account, and deliver better wages and conditions in Queensland, we have had a win!
TIA members across south-east Queensland met with their local Labor state MP’s, asking them to urge Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace and Health Minister Steven Miles to fix the language services industry in Queensland.
As of this month, the Office of Industrial Relations has found that the six companies contracted by the State Government for language services in Queensland are labour hire companies.
This means that these companies are subject to regulations under the tough Labour Hire Licensing Act. If these companies are operating in Queensland without a licence, they are subject to heavy penalties.
But, we need to keep fighting to ensure that wages and conditions are lifted across the board in Queensland. We need you involved, we need you to join Translators and Interpreters Australia.
We need the majority of translators and interpreters in Queensland who are working for one of the 6 State Government contracted language service providers to sign our petition for better wages and conditions. The LSPs are:
- Deaf Services;
- Language Loop and;
- Easy Speak.
If you have already signed the petition, please forward this onto your colleagues in Queensland. The more signatures we get, the louder our voice will be.
